Amidst incredible devastation in the Philippines, your gifts to Week of Compassion are already making a difference.

According to reports from our partners, more than 670,000 people in the Philippines have been displaced by Typhoon Haiyan; 41,000 houses have been damaged or destroyed, and 11.3 million people in nine regions of the country have been affected.

Executive Director Amy Gopp names the contributions of Disciples an absolutely essential part of the relief effort. “While the devastation makes us yearn to do something concrete like collect canned food or used clothing, the most efficient way to help — the best way to truly live out the Gospel mandate to stand with the least of these, the most vulnerable, the most impacted– is through your monetary gifts gifts,” she said.

“Through the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP), the ACT Alliance, and Church World Service, the body of Christ is already serving those in need. We are part of an impactful, global response that brings hope and healing, thanks to the faith, commitment, and generosity of Disciples across North America. It’s times like these when we see most clearly Disciples compassion in action.”
