Psalm 121

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time on and forever more.

She came to me with that look in her two-year-old eyes, the one that could convince her daddy to do just about anything. She help up her little cup and gently pleaded, “Daddy, juice.”

It was 9:30 at night, and I knew more juice would only keep her up later. So as any good father would do, I softly told her, “Honey, go ask your mother.” She hurried down the hall, and I soon heard my wife’s reply, “Water, honey.” I filled the cup with water and after a huge gulp of what my daughter assumed would be juice, she wrinkled her brow and poked out that bottom lip. “Daddy, I said juice.”

We do not always get what we want in life. God often protects us from our destructive wants to ensure that we have what we need. So often our physical wants do not enhance our spiritual well-being. So God says, “No, you just need water.”

PRAYER: All knowing God, we acknowledge that it is for our good that you sometimes say “no” to us. Help us to accept the “no” gracefully and always embrace your “yes.” In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
